US Startup Udemy is seeking a business development and marketing intern

Udemy seeks to disrupt the education industry by enabling anyone to teach and learn online. Blogging was able to disrupt the publishing industry by allowing anyone in the world to publish a newspaper on their couch. In the same vein, Udemy seeks to change education by tapping into the millions of experts all over the world and letting them teach what they know online. We aren’t the only ones who believe this is possible – our investors previously foresaw the internet giants YouTube, LinkedIn, Zynga, Twitter and Yelp. This is a big vision and we’re looking for the most resourceful, intelligent and hard-working individuals to help us achieve it.

This role is focused on someone who is hungry to learn what it takes to build a big business on the internet and is excited by the possibilities of building Udemy into an online powerhouse. You will get the opportunity to mingle with internet celebrities like Eric Ries and Dave McClure. Your work will be featured in articles on TechCrunch and (hopefully) the New York Times or Wall Street Journal. Best of all, you’ll be part of an early-stage startup that is making things happen – the perfect launching pad to your career as a future entrepreneur, social media guru or startup team member.

We’re looking for our first business hire, so you will be a critical team member that will have significant responsibility. You are bright, hard-working and resourceful. Most importantly, you are excited by the challenges and opportunity of an early-stage startup that could change the world.

You are not expected to have any work experience but demonstrated ability to “get shit done” is required. The rest of the expectations are below.

Expectations:

  • Hard Worker – you’re not afraid of a 12-hour day and still manage to get twice as much done in it
  • Resourceful – you can get more value with less and often know how to come up with creative solutions to increase efficiency and output without decreasing quality
  • Solid Writer – ideally, you can write an article for our blog or copy for the website in your sleep; it takes you 1 hour to write what others spend days on
  • Excellent Communicator – your job will entail connecting with internet celebrities and helping them as they use Udemy; we must be able to trust that you will be a great representative for the company
  • Web-savvy – you don’t use encyclopedias, you use Wikipedia; you don’t go to the library, you use Google; you ask your friends on Facebook, not via e-mail
  • The number of years of professional experience you have isn’t important to us
  • You should be ready to make this startup the primary focus of your life

This position is in San Francisco, CA.
